Currently, if you are a StW Founder, i.e. you paid for access to the game, you can earn VBucks by doing particular tasks and missions in Save the World (if you're a free player, you will earn X-Ray tickets instead). However, when you start the game, it can be quite confusing as to how you access those VBucks. "How can I get more VBucks?" is a common question on Reddit. So here are my top tips for maximising your VBuck farming:
1. Log in to the game every day. For the first few weeks you receive VBucks approximately once every fortnite. After that it's once every week - either 150 VBucks or 300 VBucks. You don't need to play the game at all, just log in every day. If you miss a day, it just picks up where you left off.
2. Do your Daily Quests at least every 3 days. These can be found on the 'Quests' page. Every day that you log in you will be given a new daily quest, and these stack, up to a total of 3 quests. Each daily quest earns you a minimum of 50 VBucks, with 3 earning more: Mission Specialist Plankerton (60 VBucks), Mission Specialist Canny Valley (75 VBucks) and Mission Specialist Twine Peaks (100 VBucks). Aside from these 3 missions, all other missions can be completed at any level of the map, from PL 1 upwards. Most of them require you to destroy items (e.g. fire engines, teddy bears, TVs) or to visit places (e.g. city locations, survivor shelters), or to kill husks or do missions as a particular type of hero, or with a particular type of weapon. You can opt to request one daily quest per day, although of course
3. Progress your storyline and do your SSDs. Every few pages in the storyline you have to complete a new Stormshield Defence (SSD), and each of these gives 100 VBucks as a reward (150 VBucks for every 10th). There are a total of 40 SSDs you can complete across the game. This adds up to a total of 4200 VBucks across the zones. The initial ones are quite easy, but they become a lot harder as you get deeper into the game, and require several hours of preparation for each one at the hardest levels.
4. Look out for VBucks missions. The mission rotation changes once every 24 hours, and very often it will feature regular missions that offer VBucks as a reward - either 25 VBucks if the mission is in Stonewood, 30 if it's in Plankerton, 35 in Canny Valley, or 40 in Twine Peaks.
Sometimes these missions are locked behind side quests later on in the game. E.g. there is a common VBucks mission at power level 23 in Plankerton that requires completion of a certain Canny Valley side quest to access. More motivation to get your storyline completed!
5. Do your challenges. When you start StW you will have a series of Challenges available under the Quest tab. These challenges are staged, with each stage increasing slightly in the requirements. Once you complete 20 stages they run out, but that still adds up to a total of 2600 VBucks across the stages.
Here are the challenges:
Mission Accomplished! – Complete X missions (50 VBucks per stage for 20 stages).
Hold The Door! – Complete X Storm Shield Defenses (50 VBucks per stage for 20 stages). You can find these missions easily using the Storm Shield Assist option in Play with Others, or by signing up to the FortniteSSD discord server, where people are always asking for help on their SSDs.
Toxic Treasures – Destroy X Mimics in successful missions (30 VBucks per stage for 20 stages). Mimics are monsters who are masquerading as Stage 3 chests. The chest will shake slightly as you open it, and you will have to get ready to kill the monster quickly! She drops pretty good loot too.
As a final note, DO NOT BUY SAVE THE WORLD JUST FOR THE VBUCKS! If you do the maths from this article, you will realise that you get an average of 350-500 VBucks a week from your daily challenges and log in bonus, plus any extra you might earn from VBucks missions and SSDs, plus an extra 2600 towards the beginning of your time on the game when you are still working through your challenges. Therefore, it's much easier and quicker to earn money in real life and use it to buy VBucks!
Personally, I play Save the World because I enjoy the game, and I see the VBucks as an added bonus. When I was still acquiring a wide range of survivors, heroes and weapons, I actually spent all my VBucks on Save the World loot llamas, which help you progress further in the game. Now I have most of the items in StW, and I tend to spend my VBucks on Battle Royale skins and emotes (I'm not a big fan of gliders, back bling or wraps).
